Ellie Choate

Decker Water Utility Research Intern

Ellie Choate is a rising junior at Duke University studying Economics and Marine Science & Conservation. Her academic work explores the intersection of environmental systems and economic decision-making, including research on coastal resilience, conservation finance, and ecosystem service valuation. She is particularly interested in resilience planning and the role of ecological innovation in developing sustainable and adaptive infrastructure systems.

Ellie’s background is rooted in environmental education, with experience teaching students about drinking water systems and water quality at the Fairmount Water Works in Philadelphia, as well as leading programs on coastal ecology and marine biodiversity at the Maria Mitchell Aquarium in Nantucket. These roles have shaped her interest in connecting scientific research with community engagement and economically viable solutions.

At Moonshot Missions, Ellie is excited to contribute to a mission that supports more safe, affordable, and reliable water systems, while continuing to develop her skills in translating complex water challenges into practical, community-centered solutions.

In her free time, Ellie enjoys any activity outdoors and/or involving water, including rowing, water polo, kayaking, and hiking.
