Alan Huizenga, P.E.
Senior Utility Advisor
Alan, growing up the youngest of four boys on a dairy farm in Vermont, witnessed practical problem solving on a daily basis. A love of math and science and his grandmother’s desire that “one of you boys has got to go to college!” led him to a long career in consulting civil engineering, including most recently owning a firm in Vermont for over 18 years that primarily specialized in small water system improvement projects throughout the State of Vermont. The company had a stellar record with regard to successful bond votes for municipal projects. The ability to identify practical and affordable solutions that were impartially communicated to the public, teamed with sound funding alternatives through Drinking Water Revolving Loan Fund and/or USDA Rural Development programs, contributed to this success. Nearly all of the projects included preparatlon of Preliminary Engineering Reports and Final Designs and provision of Construction Phase Resident Representation.
Alan has served on his local planning commission, regional planning commission and local select board, as well as the Technical Advisory Committee established to advise Vermont Agency of Natural Resources (VT ANR) regarding technical standards for potable water supplies and wastewater systems administered by the Wastewater System and Potable Water Supply Rules.
