Senior Utility Advisor

Fully remote, with required travel to client sites across the U.S.

Moonshot Missions is seeking an experienced and dedicated Senior Utility Advisor to provide expert technical assistance and consulting services to communities. This role requires applying subject matter expertise in water utility operations to address technical, managerial, and financial challenges. The Senior Utility Advisor will lead complex technical projects, supervise and mentor staff, and collaborate with utility clients and stakeholders to ensure sustainable and equitable solutions. This position plays a critical leadership role in overseeing teams and ensuring successful project outcomes through effective staff management and guidance.

Requirements

POSITION TITLE: SENIOR UTILITY ADVISOR


Time Commitment: Full-time (40 hours per week).


Location: Fully remote, with required travel to client sites across the U.S.

Training and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental/earth science, civil/environmental/chemical engineering, environmental management/studies, sustainability, or a related field.

  • 10+ years of experience in water and wastewater utility operations, consulting, or program management.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Leadership and Supervision: Proven ability to lead and mentor teams in a collaborative environment.

  • Project Management: Strong experience in managing budgets, work plans, and reporting.

  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of utility operations, regulatory compliance, and funding programs (e.g., SRF, WIFIA).

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written skills for technical reporting and stakeholder engagement.

  • Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE), Water/Wastewater Operator Certification, or PMP preferred.

  • Mission Alignment: Passion for advancing environmental equity and improving services for underserved communities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Moonshot Missions team of experts to deliver services to utility clients by:

  • Define project objectives, scope, budget, and deliverables.

  • Develop detailed project plans with timelines, tasks, and resource allocation.

  • Engage with utility and community stakeholders to coordinate project activities.

  • Monitor project progress, proactively addressing issues to ensure timely completion.

  • Lead and mentor utility advisors and/or analysts, fostering a high-performing work environment.

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and complete performance evaluations.

  • Provide professional development opportunities and support staff in achieving their goals.

  • Conduct site assessments to evaluate utilities' operational, managerial, and financial capacities.

  • Develop comprehensive site assessment reports with recommendations for improvements.

  • Draft utility improvement plans, including capital projects and operational enhancements.

  • Prepare technical reports and support documentation for state and federal grant/loan applications.

  • Provide expert guidance to utilities and stakeholders on best practices and compliance requirements.

Proposed Salary Range and Benefits

Proposed Salary Range and Benefits:

  • Salary commensurate with experience, ranging from $105k - $155k

  • Comprehensive health insurance, including medical, dental, vision, and life coverage, with the opportunity to contribute to a 401(k)-retirement savings plan.

  • Fully remote work with 11 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, and a competitive PTO package.
