As the Founder and CEO of Moonshot Missions, George serves in an important advisory capacity for the work of PRESERVE. His experience and expertise as the former General Manager of DC Water centers on utility governance and communication, financial evaluation, customer engagement and interactions, and LTCP and NPDES expertise. Similar to his visionary practices with Moonshot, George works to revitalize and engage utility leaders to adopt PRESERVE’s best practices.

Michael has worked as an executive and public works director throughout the country, most recently as the Executive Director of the Madison Metropolitan Sewage District. Michael brings his skills as an educator and facilitator in governance, infrastructure, climate mitigation/adaptation and leadership. As chair of PRESERVE, Michael strives to bring communities together around common issues to help navigate cleaner water for all.

Rania Bashar, PhD

Rania worked as a Wastewater process engineer and scientist with Wisconsin’s Madison Metropolitan Sewage District and UW Madison for many years. Her core expertise focuses on nutrient removal and recovery, converting waste streams to value streams, process optimization for treatment capacity and energy and emerging contaminants. Her long-term work in public wastewater utilities and her leadership in wastewater treatment projects has prepared Rania to serve as the manager for PRESERVE, building and maintaining a community of utility leaders.

Andy brings a vast amount of experience to the PRESERVE team, both in leadership positions with municipal utilities as the Executive Director of the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority, and in national water initiatives. His key areas include wastewater facility and collection system optimization, CSO and LTCP expertise, clean energy, and community engagement. Within PRESERVE, he works as an SME/Technical Expert to build and advise a useful and productive community.

Nick has accumulated 13 years of experience in wastewater treatment operations within the state of Wisconsin, where he holds advanced operator certifications. His proficiency extends across process control, operational strategy and optimization, and lab analysis. Not only do Nick’s invaluable connections and experiences allow him to be a key resource for PRESERVE members, but his commitment to the water quality industry fuels his passion for cultivating a community with PRESERVE.

Alex has extensive experience with the issues facing utilities of all sizes, including financing, operations and stakeholder involvement. Through his work in more than 20 countries over 30 years, including as a Water and Sanitation Specialist at the World Bank and Board Director for DC Water, Alex has learned that considering a variety of cultures in understanding and resolving challenges results in more sustainable outcomes. In his volunteer capacity, Alex offers up guidance and careful perspective on issues effecting utility finances and group collaboration.

Katie’s background in technical communication empowers her to tell the success stories of Moonshot's technical advisors. Further, her role as a professor of English at the University of Cincinnati provides both facilitation and instructional design experience to implement into PRESERVE's module development. As Communications Specialist, Katie manages the PRESERVE website and coordinates deliverables and outreach materials for the PRESERVE community to achieve its mission.
