SENIOR UTILITY ADVISOR – WATER RESOURCES

Remote position with required travel to client sites within the US.

Moonshot Missions seeks an experienced Senior Utility Advisor to serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert for a range of water resource and technical assistance projects. This position supports public water systems, private utilities, tribes, and public agencies by providing strategic guidance and hands-on technical support to improve system performance, enhance supply reliability, and implement high-impact water replenishment and efficiency projects.

The Advisor will lead technical assessments and guide planning for strategies such as leak reduction, conservation, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), recycled water, potable reuse, and groundwater management. In addition to providing technical leadership, the Advisor will manage project delivery, coordinate with clients and partners, and contribute to internal planning and quality assurance.

Training and Experience


  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following: water resources, engineering, planning,

    environmental science, public policy or related field in the water sector.

  • 10+ years of full-time experience in water utility operations, water resource

    planning, engineering, or related technical work.

  • Advanced degree preferred.


Desired Qualifications


  • Subject matter expertise in areas such as water loss control, advance metering infrastructure (AMI), recycled water reuse, water recycling and/or potable reuse, groundwater management, and infrastructure improvements.

  • Experience leading integrated water resource planning efforts, modeling and utility technical assessments.

  • Familiarity with AWWA M36 methods, volumetric water benefit frameworks, and regulatory planning documents - e.g., urban water management plans (UWMPs), water shortage contingency plans (WSCPs), water supply assessments.

  • Ability to manage complex projects and supervise staff, and to facilitate coordination among utilities, contractors, and agencies.

  • Experience working with utilities in high water-risk or resource-constrained communities..

  • Experience with regulatory planning in California or other Western U.S. states is a plus.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

  • Collaborate with the Moonshot Missions team of experts to deliver optimal services to utility

    clients by:

    • Leading utility assessments to identify water-saving or replenishment opportunities.

    • Applying volumetric benefit accounting methods to evaluate potential impacts of water-saving or reuse strategies.

    • Developing implementation workplans in collaboration with utilities and project teams.

    • Supporting development of regulatory documents and technical reports.

    • Advising on water rights, regulatory compliance, and emerging water policy trends.

    • Managing technical assistance projects and overseeing scope, schedule, deliverables, and coordination.

    • Contributing to internal planning, coordination, and QA/QC processes.


Travel

Travel required within the US, subject to funding and according to health/safety guidelines. Moonshot Missions will reimburse travel costs.


Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid US driver’s license


Proposed Salary Range and Benefits

  • Salary commensurate to experience with the range at $105,000-$155,000/year.

  • Comprehensive health insurance, including medical, dental, and vision coverage

    along with life insurance available for full time employees.
