BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Remote Position with some required travel within the US.

Moonshot Missions seeks an experienced Business Development Manager to lead and coordinate the organization's funding pipeline across federal and state grants, foundations, and fee-for-service opportunities. The Business Development Manager will manage proposal development from opportunity identification through submission, working closely with senior leadership, program staff, finance, and external partners to ensure funding pursuits are strategically prioritized, well-coordinated, and aligned with organizational capacity and long-term sustainability.

Training and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.

  • 5-10 years of experience in business development, grant development, proposal management, or related roles in nonprofit, consulting, or public-sector-adjacent organizations.


Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience managing proposals across multiple funding types (government, foundations, and/or fee-for-service).

  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent opportunities and deadlines.

  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly for proposal and grant writing.

  • Experience working closely with Executive leadership and senior staff in a matrixed organization.

  • Familiarity with CRM systems and project management tools (e.g., Monday.com or similar) preferred.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Business Development Portfolio & Pipeline Management:

    • Manage Moonshot's full business development portfolio across federal and state grants, cooperative agreements, foundations, and fee-for-service work.

    • Maintain an integrated view of current and prospective opportunities, including timelines, funding sources and strategic fit.

    • Partner with the Executive Leadership Team and senior leaders on opportunity screening, prioritization, and go/no-go discussions across all funding types.

    • Ensure coordination and balance across funding sources so proposals align with organizational capacity, delivery timelines, and financial sustainability.

    • Coordinate with program managers on employee workloads and commitments resulting from proposed and awarded work to support staffing, budgeting, and planning decisions.

    • Prepare agendas for, lead, and follow up on weekly business development meetings, ensuring clarity on priorities, decisions, and next steps.

    • Track and analyze proposal with rates, pipeline health, and funding trends, and provide regular summary reporting to senior leadership.


  • Proposal and Budget Development:

    • Lead coordination of proposal development across all funding sources, from opportunity identification through submission.

    • Serve as the primary point of coordination among Executive Leadership Team members, senior leaders, program managers, technical staff, and external partners during the proposal development.

    • Lead development of proposal budgets, working closely with Executive Leadership team, senior leaders and program managers, to define scopes, staffing plans, cost assumptions, and compliance with funder requirements.

    • Ensure proposal budgets are aligned with technical scope, staffing availability, organizational cost structures, and funding limitations.

    • Draft, edit, and refine proposal content, including organizational narratives, qualifications, staffing approaches, and past performance.

    • Manage and maintain resumes and bios to ensure materials are current, accurate, tailored to specific opportunities.

    • Maintain and continuously improve Moonshot's proposal content library, templates, standard language to support efficient future submissions.

    • Coordinate applications for recurring or strategic funding opportunities.

    • Support internal handoff from awarded proposals to program implementation team ensure continuity between what is proposed, budgeted, and delivered.

    • Assist with post-award documentation and internal tracking related to business development commitments as needed.

Proposed Salary Range and Benefits

Proposed Salary Range and Benefits

  • Salary commensurate with experience, with a range of $90,000-$125,000 per year.
